The Thomas Trio is Available for Bookings

When I was 14 years old, I applied for and obtained the job of our town library’s page. I have always loved reading and the library. After riding my bike to work, I noticed that there was nowhere to park it. This was a common problem. The library is located in the town's 100 year old Spring Lake Community House (https://www.springlaketheatre.com/), which hosts many events, including theater productions and a large dance troupe. Bikes were always scattered across the lawn in every season. I want

To show my Scoutmaster the problem, I parked my family’s bikes on the grass to illustrate the issue. His reaction was, “I’ve lived in this town for sixty years, and I’ve always hated how people leave their bikes on the grass!”

First, I began by drawing up plans on my computer and then positioning my family’s bikes where I thought the new parking area should go. The Community House staff was very enthusiastic and helped me find the perfect location. During the planning process, I noticed that the sidewalk in that area had a significant dip, so we decided to fix that as well.

Soon, we got to work. From digging and hauling to smoothing and finishing, it was a grueling but rewarding job. We didn't finish the first week, so we regrouped the following Saturday to complete the project.

Along the way, I learned how to deal with unexpected problems on the fly, such as leveling the sidewalk, which wasn’t part of the original plan. I also learned how patios require a solid base layer, how to set and cut stone, and how to mix concrete to build a border. Most importantly, I learned how to lead a team. I couldn't have done it without them.

It was a relief when we finished in the late afternoon of the following weekend. After everyone had left, I made sure to clean up the job site and protect our project so that it could properly dry and set.
I felt an immense sense of pride when the project was finally completed. The local newspaper even came to cover the story, highlighting the positive impact on our community. Now, whenever I pass by the Community House, I see bikes neatly parked in the racks every day, a visible reminder that our hard work made a lasting difference.

November 13th is now celebrated as Dylan Thomas Day in my town because the mayor was grateful that I identified a problem and fixed it!

It's a good idea to get your little brother an ice cream if he spent two weekends helping you out!
